About Pokémon GO CP (Combat Power)
Combat Power (CP) is the single most important number in Pokémon GO. It represents your Pokémon's overall battle strength, combining its base stats, Individual Values (IVs), and level into a single visible metric. Higher CP means more damage in raids, better performance in Gym battles, and stronger presence in the GO Battle League. But CP isn't everything — a 1500 CP Pokémon with perfect PvP IVs can outperform a 2500 CP Pokémon with poor stat distribution.
Our Pokémon GO CP Calculator helps you understand exactly how strong your Pokémon is and can become. Calculate current CP from IVs, predict CP after evolution, estimate power-up costs, and determine your Pokémon's IV percentage. Whether you're hunting for perfect raid counters or optimizing your Great League team, this tool provides the numbers you need.
📊 How CP Is Calculated
The CP formula uses three hidden stats derived from base stats, IVs, and level:
- Attack: (Base ATK + ATK IV) × CP Multiplier (based on level)
- Defense: (Base DEF + DEF IV) × CP Multiplier
- HP: (Base HP + HP IV) × CP Multiplier
Final CP = Floor(Attack × √Defense × √HP ÷ 10)
🎯 Understanding IVs (Individual Values)
IVs are hidden stats ranging from 0 to 15 for each of the three stats (Attack, Defense, HP). They're determined when you catch or hatch a Pokémon and cannot be changed (except through trading or Purifying Shadow Pokémon). The total IV percentage is calculated as: (ATK IV + DEF IV + HP IV) ÷ 45 × 100.
| IV Range | Rating | Stars | Worth Investing? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-49% (0-22 IV) | Bad | ⭐ 0-1 | Transfer or trade |
| 51-66% (23-30 IV) | Decent | ⭐⭐ 2 | Keep for evolution XP |
| 67-80% (31-36 IV) | Good | ⭐⭐⭐ 3 | Worth powering up |
| 82-95% (37-43 IV) | Great | ⭐⭐⭐ 3 | Excellent for raids |
| 96-100% (44-45 IV) | Perfect / Near-Perfect | ⭐⭐⭐ 3 (pink) | Max out & best buddy! |
🔄 Evolution CP Predictions
Evolution multiplies a Pokémon's base stats, often dramatically increasing CP. The CP after evolution depends on the new base stats while your IVs and level remain the same. Our Evolution Predictor mode shows exactly what CP your Pokémon will reach after evolving — helping you decide whether to evolve now or wait for a better specimen.
🏆 PvP IV Optimization
For Great League (1500 CP cap) and Ultra League (2500 CP cap), perfect 15/15/15 IVs are NOT always best. Because Attack is weighted more heavily in the CP formula, low Attack IV + high Defense/HP IVs let you power up your Pokémon to a higher level while staying under the CP cap. This is called "PvP IV optimization." Common optimal spreads are 0/15/15 or 1/15/14 depending on the species.

💡 Pro Pokémon GO Tips
- Don't power up until you need to. Save Stardust. Only power up Pokémon when you need them for a specific raid, Gym battle, or PvP league.
- Check IVs before evolving. Use Appraisal or this calculator. A 0% IV Dragonite is worse than a 100% IV Dragonair? No — but you'll save 125 Candy by waiting for a better Dratini.
- Weather Boost = higher level catch. Weather-boosted Pokémon are Level 25 instead of Level 20, saving you 28,000 Stardust and 28 Candy in power-ups.
- Lucky Pokémon save Stardust. Traded Lucky Pokémon cost 50% less Stardust to power up. Always try to get Lucky versions of Pokémon you plan to max out.
- Shadow Pokémon deal 20% more damage. Even a 0% IV Shadow Pokémon outperforms a 100% IV regular Pokémon in raids. Don't purify your good Shadows!
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
❓ How accurate is this CP calculator?
Our calculator uses the official Pokémon GO CP formula and base stats from the Game Master file. The calculations are identical to what the game uses. Enter correct IVs and level for 100% accurate results.
❓ What's the difference between CP and IV?
CP (Combat Power) is the visible battle strength number. IVs (Individual Values) are hidden stats (0-15 for ATK/DEF/HP) that contribute to CP. Two Pokémon at the same level can have different CP because of IV differences.
❓ Can I calculate evolution CP?
Yes! Switch to Evolution Predictor mode. Select the Pokémon you have now, and we'll show the CP after evolution. IVs and level stay the same — only base stats change.
❓ Are perfect IVs always the best?
No! For PvP Great/Ultra League, low ATK IV + high DEF/HP IV is often better because you can reach a higher level while staying under the CP cap. For raids and Master League, yes — perfect IVs are ideal.
❓ How do I find my Pokémon's exact level?
Use the arc position behind your Pokémon. Third-party apps like Calcy IV or Poke Genie can scan screenshots and give exact level. Or estimate based on Stardust power-up cost.
